TEACHING ASSISTANT - LEVEL 3
A Teaching Assistant works in Primary, Special and Secondary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. The primary role of a Teaching Assistant is to support the lead class teacher in enhancing a pupil's learning either via groups or individually.
They ensure pupils understand the work set, assist class teachers with learning objectives and help pupils to stay on task. Promoting self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem play an integral part towards pupil's well-being; ensuring pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing, safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum.

Level 2 English and Maths can be included in the programme if not achieved before starting the course.
Employers may also accept a relevant Level 2 qualification.
COURSE OVERVIEW AND LEARNING
The course is delivered onsite by an allocated personal tutor and tailored to the individual's place of work. Learners will understand safeguarding and prevention policies and how to support, recognise, respond and learn management strategies adapt to pupils behaviour. They will study elements of psychology to promote self-belief, social inclusion and understand how self-esteem plays an integral part in pupils to thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. They will also develop strategies to support and encourage pupils to move towards independent learning.

As well as ensuring full competency as a Teaching Assistant, this standard provides a foundation for potential progression into a number of career paths in the Educational sector including Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Assistant Teacher and Teacher.
